10 Basic Stances

 


Stance 1 (Heisoku-dachi)
Feet Together


Stance 2 (Musubi-dachi)
Rotate on Heels, Toes Pointing Out


Stance 3 (Heiko-dachi)
Rotate on Balls of Feet to Straight,
Feet Shoulder-width Apart

Stance 4 (Hachiji-dachi)
Rotate on Heels, Toes Slightly Pointed Out

Stance 5 (Naihanchi-dachi)
Rotate on Balls of Feet,
Knees Bent into Each Other

Stance 6 (Shiko-dachi)
Rotate on Heels, Toes Pointed Out,
Knees Bent, Weight Equally Distributed

Stance 7 (Zenkutsu-dachi)
Rotate Right Foot Close to Body, then
Out to the Right at an Angle,
Weight is on the Left Leg,
One Shoulder-wide and Two Shoulders-long

Stance 8 (Hachimunju-dachi)
Rotate Right Foot to Straight Out,
Both Knees Bent,
Weight Equally Distributed

Stance 9 (Nekoashi-dachi)
Right Foot Comes in to the Center, then
Out in Front with Just the Ball of the Foot on the Floor,
Left has the Weight and Knee is Bent
  
Stance 10 (Shizentai-dachi)
Left Foot Comes in to the Center, then
Out in Front, Feet Shoulder-width Apart,
In a Natural Stance
