Bio

My life journey in martial arts began in 1963 while living in Sasebo, Japan

We moved frequently as I was growing up, living in Illinois, California 2 times, Oregon, Washington, Virginia and North Carolina. I trained in martial arts styles at any dojo or gym I could find where we were living..

While living in southern California I was initially promoted to black belt in 1971 at the age of 15.

In 1975 I enlisted in the US Navy and served for 6 years. I trained with friends and alone during this time.

In 1979 I married my wife Sandy. We have been married for 31 years. We are blessed with two wonderful children, Amy and TC.

In 1983 I enrolled in a Shorinryu Shorinkan dojo in Hampton, Va. I attended the Nakazato Sensei training camp held that year at Hampton University.

In 1992 we became associated with Perry Sensei. Since then, my family and I have been attending the Shorinryu Shorinkan summer camp hosted by Doug Perry Sensei.

In 1994 my family and I attended the Shorinryu Shorinkan Training Camp hosted by Pat Haley Sensei in Chico, CA.

In 1998 I began running my own dojo in Hampton, VA and became a direct student of Perry Sensei.  Within 2 ½ years we outgrew the dojo and moved to our current location.

I worked at Newport News Shipbuilding, now Northrup Grumman Newport News, for 22 years in the engineering and test engineering divisions as Chief Test Engineer.    I left the employ of the shipyard in 2004 to operate Green’s Martial Arts Center full time.  Starting a martial arts school was an opportunity of a lifetime. I am now able to do what I love every day. I truly enjoy sharing the art of Shorinryu Shorinkan with my students.

At our dojo we have over 250 students, ages 4 and up.

In February 1999, we began hosting the Shorinryu Shorinkan winter camp. This camp is attended by the majority of the Shorinryu Shorinkan Kyoshi and Perry Sensei, who also teach at the camp.
